About Tai’an City
Tai’an is the capital of Shanxi Province, surrounded by mountains on three sides. It has a history of 2500 years and was an important military city in ancient times. Now it is one of China’s heavy industrial cities, producing more than half of the country’s coal.
There are also many attractions in the city, such as the Jinci Temple. This is the most attractive temple in the city, although Shuangta Xi (the temple with the twin pagodas) has become a symbol of the city thanks to its unique architecture. Another important attraction is the Tianlong Shan Stone Caves, where you can see magnificent sculptures from the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Taiyuan City has a convenient public transportation system, as it is the transportation hub of the province. In recent years, the accommodation has become increasingly modern and ranges from 5-star hotels to comfortable guesthouses.
CLIMATE
Taiyuan’s climate is a warm, temperate continental climate with a monsoon and an average annual temperature of 9.3C (48.7F). There is abundant sunshine but little rainfall. In spring (March to May) temperatures rise sharply. Spring here often comes with intense sunshine and strong winds. The wind is unpleasant because it brings black dust.
If you come to Taiwan in spring or summer, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are essential. Those who wear contact lenses should be very careful with the wind. In summer, the weather in Taiyuan is hot and rainy with high humidity. The average temperature is about 23C (73F) and the average rainfall is 250-280 mm (1.5-2.5 inches), especially in late July and August. In autumn (September to November) temperatures drop sharply, averaging 8C (46F)-10C (50F).
The good weather during this season makes it the best time to travel. The Shanxi Taiyuan International Folk Art Festival is held in September, with many troupes from all over the world. The winter climate, with an average temperature of -7C (44.5F), is always cold and dry. Warm clothes are essential when traveling at this time of year.
