NLP – Its History

What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a set of models for how communication affects subjective experience and how it is affect by subjective experience. The NLP Developer
Created by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder in the 1970s, NLP was originally discover by three psychotherapists: Gestalt therapist Fritz Pearls, family therapist Virginia Satir, and Milton H. Milton, a founding member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. M. Erickson was more successful than his colleagues.

1970: Founding and early development

1975: The Structure of Magic series was subsequently publish.
1976-77: Milton H. Erickson’s model of hypnotic technique is publish. Erickson, Erickson.
1979: From Frog to Prince: Neurolinguistic Programming.
1980: From Frog to Frog: Volume 1 published.
1980: Bandler and Grinder fold up the company.
1981: Litigation over intellectual property rights begins. Many people have begun to develop NLP training courses. Because developers and trainers vary, there is no single NLP system.
1982-87: Grinder and Judith DeRozier co-develop a new NLP code.
1984-87: The National Research Council gives NLP an all-out negative review, indicating a decline in interest in NLP research.
1988-89: Bandler develops Design Human Engineering (TM) and later Neuro-Hypnotic Repatterning (TM).
1990s: NLP courses and certification of trainers begin in the UK and elsewhere.
1996-97: Bandler sues Grinder for infringing on Grinder’s trademark and intellectual property rights in NLP.
Where are the trademarks now?
In late 2000, Bandler and Grinder reached an agreement to “co-author and co-invent” neurolinguistic programming technology.
Today, Richard Bandler is a member of the Neuro-Linguistic Programming (TM) Association and John Grinder is a member of the International Academy of Neuro-Linguistic Programming Trainers.
NLP Today
NLP is still an open training field, and various trainers and practitioners have developed their own methods and concepts.
